Resveratrol has in recent times been touted as an marvelous anti-aging antioxidant. Resveratrol is a substance that is found in great quantities in red wine, grape juice and grape skins and many types of berries including blueberries and the acai berry. Resveratrol belongs to a group of nutrients called polyphenols, which are strong antioxidants that are usually found in the most abundance in the skins of precise fruits and the pigments of others.

In a recent Oprah show on the effects of aging, Dr. Oz mentioned resveratrol and even recommended supplements of it. However, he also stated that as of yet there have been no controlled experiments on humans and that these studies would be a long time coming because they are testing anti-aging. He did not give straight backing to any product but just emphasized his belief that this powerful antioxidant has superb health promoting and anti-aging advantages.

Red wine provides a excellent supply of resveratrol and it has been considered that this may be one of the main reasons for the French Paradox. The French tend to have high-fat foods yet they also have a propensity to have superior health including a reduced amount of cardiovascular diseases and other diseases. The reasons for this disparity in health between the French and people from other cultures in the world have long been contemplated.

Most of the study that has been completed on resveratrol has been on animals instead of humans. Many times a benefit found in the animal studies is later found to have a parallel effect on humans, however since there have yet to be studies on humans, it is indefinite at this time how the benefits will translate to humans.

In the investigational studies on mice, the groups that were given resveratrol were more protected from obesity and diabetes. Both obesity and diabetes are powerful risk elements for cardiovascular disease. But, it is very interesting to note that in order to attain the same levels of resveratrol that the mice were given, a human would have to consume as many as 100 to 1000 bottles of red wine each day, which is impossible not to mention that all of the benefits would be cancelled out owing to the injurious effects of excessive alcohol.

Supplementary examination proved that resveratrol is helpful in lowering inflammation and blood clotting, which are both high risk elements in cardiovascular diseases. More exploration is indicated to confirm whether it was just the resveratrol or a diverse issue or combination of factors.

There have been no scientific studies on humans; in spite of this at this time most experts tend to think that supplementing with resveratrol can be constructive. You can take a supplement and you can also get a supply of resveratrol from beneficial foods in a wholesome diet

Red wine, grape juice, grapes, blueberries, cranberries and all of the acai berry products all have substantial amounts of resveratrol along with a host of other nutrients that can work together synergistically. Including these good for your health foods in your daily diet can be greatly helpful.
